Android N receive support seamless updates

The idea of automatic downloading of new versions of Android in the background is not new, but with the release version of N Android, the operating system will not just download them in the background – as well as to install them. This means that you no longer have to restart the device and observe the message “Installing updates”. Instead, as soon as the update is installed, you only need to reboot the device, and then boot the operating system is already updated.

While most of the attention paid to the new features of Android N, is often overlooked less visible, but not least, the possibility of a new operating system. At its conference, Google I / O, Google announced the seamless updates that come with Android N.

If this sounds familiar, it is because it is the same approach to updates that exist in Chrome OS. The Android N is achieved due to the presence of two system partitions. When an update is found, it will be established in the extended partition. After rebooting the device, an additional section will be swapped to the primary, allowing the operating system to boot almost instantly.

The new method will be supported on all Android devices, not just the Nexus. Of course, this does not mean that manufacturers will deploy updates more quickly, it simply means that when future updates will be available for Android devices, you can install them in the background, in parallel doing other things.
