JK Shin, who led Samsung Mobile last year, will replace Dongjin Koch.
Before the change, Shin served as director and president of Samsung Electronics Mobile Business.
Position the president was given to Koch, who previously oversaw the development of Galaxy S6 and Galaxy Note5 as head of mobile research and development department. Sheen will stay on as head of the mobile division.
The new appointment is part of a larger change in leadership, which began after Lee Jae Yong, vice chairman of Samsung Group, began to take on more duties after his father, the chairman of Samsung Group, Lee Kun-hee, a heart attack in the past year.
Usually Samsung appoints executives to new positions every year, based on their effectiveness, but this is the first time that Lee Jae-Yong made a significant change from the receipt of authority from his father.
