A couple of months ago, Qualcomm has officially introduced processors Snapdragon 620 and Snapdragon 618. Despite the fact that the 600 series is designed for mid-range smartphones, both chipsets are powerful enough compared with its previous chipsets.
It seems that the company realized that the names of the chips is not very different from other mid-range SoC in the lineup. As a result, the company officially renamed Qualcomm’s chips now Snapdragon 618 will be called the Snapdragon 650 and Snapdragon 652 – the new name for the Snapdragon 620.
This is a pretty smart solution company, since it is always better to differentiate processors properly to avoid any misunderstandings.
As is known, the Snapdragon 650 comes with six cores: two Cortex-A72 and four Cortex-A53 cores. 652 Snapdragon processor is more powerful, having a quad-core Cortex-A72 and four Cortex-A53 cores.
Therefore, we do not consider them true chipsets in the same range as the Snapdragon 615 or 616. Therefore, the rebranding was inevitable.
